Christmas is coming.

Today we spent the day putting out all our Christmas lights and decorations.  Everyone had a good time.  I did my best to not be grumpy.  (I generally don’t enjoy spending an entire day putting out decorations that will take another entire day to take down a month later…go ahead…call me scrooge).

The Boss (our 4 yr old) was my helper putting up lights on the house.  He would hand me the clips while I would clip the lights to the fascia board.  At one point, we had half of the house covered and we were feeling pretty good about ourselves.  Then, daddy made one slip and one clip dropped followed by a domino affect of falling clips and lights all the way to where we had started.  In my mind, I was cursing the ground that the lights had fallen on.  To my son, I said “Well, when you make a mistake, buddy, you just have to hold your head up high, pick up the pieces and try it again”.  And, that’s just what we did!

All in all, we got the lights up and my wife did a great job with the nativity and the inside decorations.  It all looks nice and we had a very nice day.  But, we are all extremely tired.

So far, vacation has been all I had hoped.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving.  Boss didn’t get his nap today so he was rather cranky tonight.  I was a little hard on him getting ready for bed.  Allow me to quote from his prayer, “Thank you for Momma, thank you for my sister, thank you for my brother….thank you for MOTHER (emphasis his).”  Oh well, at least he is thankful for something in the spirit of the holiday!

Here’s some pics from the day:

Fun day today

24 11 2008

Today was a great day to kick off my vacation week!

This morning, our son had a friend over from his school.  We discovered while trick or treating that one of his classmates lives just down the street a few houses.  So, we stopped by and invited him over today.  And he came by for a couple of hours this morning.  It was a new milestone of sorts for our family.  We have never had school friends over for play time before.  It was fun and kind of cute.

Then, afternoon naptime didn’t happen today at all, so we decided to round the kids up for an outdoors afternoon.  No one had a better idea, so I suggested we go to Watters Creek in Allen.  It’s an outdoors shopping mall type place.  But, I knew there was a creek running through it with all kinds of fun stuff to experience outside.  We had a terrific time and I got some good shots.

Monday morning, 7:40am…normally at this time I am getting ready to head out for work.  This morning I am sitting here in my underwear wondering if I can wait another day to shave or not.

That’s right, I am on vacation this week.  I am really looking forward to a fun week with my family.  I have plenty to do and my family is anything but restful, but I am looking forward to a excitement filled week away from work.

I hope everyone out there has a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Minnesota Vacation

Our Lake

Sorry that is has been so long since my last post.  My family and I spent the last 10 days on a vacation to Minnesota.  Our family has a lakehouse there that we try to get to once a year when possible.

We had a wonderful time this year!  Very relaxing.  The mosquitoes were annoying, but the cool weather made up for that (at least for me).

My oldest son stayed behind with my parents for another 4 weeks.  It is a win-win for everyone because he gets to stay with Nanny and Poppa at the cabin, they get to keep him, my younger son gets some personal attention, and my wife and I get a break from having 2 kids!

Anyway, now that I am back to the routine, I will try to get back to regular posts.
